How do I become a client?

Applying for a complimentary discovery call is the first step to becoming a client. The application is short and helps me better understand the type of support you're needing right now. Once I receive and review your application, you'll receive a link to schedule your call.

What happens during a discovery call?

Discovery calls are low pressure and typically last about 30 minutes. During the call, you'll do most of the talking and I'll do most of the listening. We'll use the time to clarify your health goals, and answer any questions you have about the counseling process. From there you can decide if you'd like to move forward.

Do I have to become a client if I apply for a discovery call?

Nope! Discovery calls are meant to make sure we're a good fit. You'll have time to decide if nutrition counseling feels right for you right now.

Why do your programs last several months?

Nutrition counseling programs last a minimum of three months. At the end of your initial three months, we will assess your progress and determine whether you need continued support. Changing habits takes time. Three months is the minimum amount of time needed to see the best results.

I live in St. Louis, can we meet in person?

At this time all Priority Nutrition Counseling LLC services are taking place virtually.

I don't live in Missouri, can we still work together?

Possibly - apply to become a client and we can chat!

Can you bill my insurance? Can I use HSA or FSA funds to cover services?

At this time Priority Nutrition Counseling LLC does not take medical insurance. In some cases we may be able to provide you with a "superbill" you can submit to insurance for reimbursement, or you may be able to use health savings account (HSA) or flexible spending account (FSA) funds to cover services. You are responsible for all communications with your insurance/HSA/FSA provider.

I have a chronic medical condition, can we still work together?

Yes, though it depends on the condition. Nutrition is complex and we want to ensure you're getting the proper guidance. In some cases it may be best for you to work with a dietitian who specializes in your specific condition. Apply for a complimentary discovery call. We will discuss your health needs and determine the best path forward!

What is a registered dietitian? Is it the same as a nutritionist?

Two terms you may encounter include Registered Dietitian (RD) and Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN). These are both referring to the same credential and are legally protected titles. You may also hear practitioners call themselves nutritionists - this is not the same, particularly because it does not guarantee a minimum level of training in nutrition.

At a minimum, all RDs and RDNs are required by law to have a bachelor's degree from an institution accredited by the Academy for Nutrition and Dietetics, complete extensive nutrition science coursework, complete and accredited dietetic internship with a minimum of 1,200 supervised practice hours, pass a registration exam, and complete 75 continuing education credits each crediting cycle. As well, many RDs and RDNs have completed graduate degrees in nutrition or a nutrition related discipline. Dietitians are governed by state regulatory agencies and are required to be in alignment with a code of ethics and within their legal scope of practice.

In short, all dietitians are nutritionists, but not all practitioners who call themselves nutritionists are dietitians. Working with a dietitian helps ensure your practitioner has sound nutrition training and is bound by legal and ethical guidelines.

What are your credentials? Where did you study nutrition?

My educational background is in nutrition science & public health. I completed a Bachelor of Science in Nutrition & Dietetics, my dietetic internship, a Master of Science in Nutrition & Dietetics, and a Master of Public Health all at Saint Louis University.

Do you take dietetic interns for rotations?

Sometimes - send me a note and we can chat!

I have another question that is not listed here.

No problem! Send me a note - I'll reply as soon as I can!
